Foz do Iguaçu has a diverse and interesting ethnic composition currently estimated at 311336 inhabitants. The city houses 80 of the 192 existing nationalities in the world. Strolling down the street it is no surprise if one comes across different nationalities - Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French, Bolivian, Chilean, Arabic, Moroccan, Portuguese, Indian, British, Israelis, not to mention Paraguayans and Argentines. This melting pot makes Foz do Iguaçu one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Brazil.

Location: far west of Parana on the border of Brazil with Paraguay and Argentina - latitude 25° 32' 45" W and 54º 35' 07".
 
Boarders: North with Itaipulândia municipality; south with Argentina; east with the municipalities of Santa Terezinha de Itaipu and São Miguel do Iguaçu and west with Paraguay.
 
Climate: humid subtropical with hot summers, few frosts and frequent rainfall in all months of the year.
 
Temperature: The annual average in 2006 was 21.1° C, ranging from - 1.0º C (minimum) and 37.5º C (maximum).
 
Altitude: Average of 192 meters above sea level.

The relief shows slightly wavy slopes with clayey deep and rich soils of eruptive origin organic matter.
 
Hydrography: nine hydrographic basins, seven of them limited to municipal boundaries. Main rivers: Paraná, Iguaçu, Tamanduá, São João, Almada, M'Boicy and Monjolo among others.
 
Afforestation: subtropical forest in the National Park and lowland rainforest on the rivers banks.
